For the past week I have been listening to my new YL Acoustic/Jensen speakers that were designed and built by Deja Vu Audio in McLean Virginia. They are built around a midrange horn and compression driver made by YL Acoustic (Yoshimura Labs) which was a Japanese firm that supplied movie theater sound systems in the 1960s. YL Acoustic was inspired by Western Electric designs and made some replica WE compression drivers for the Japanese market.

The firm is perhaps best known today for some of its employees who went on to form Kondo, Ale and Goto. My speakers use a YL horn from 700 Hz on up and are supplemented by a Electro-Voice horn above 10K. The bass is handled by a Jensen P15LL in an open baffle.

The crossover components use vintage paper in oil capacitors. The internal wiring is all Audio Note Lexus. Kyun chalti hai pawan mp3 song download 320kbps. The crossover parts and wiring are still breaking in and I am also experimenting with various room damping materials.

This is my first experience with open baffle woofers. Sonically they are very nice indeed. They check all my boxes---a warm tonal balance with no box colorations, excellent coherent blend of the 3 drivers, full high frequency extension, excellent detail and dynamics, great rhythmic pacing, and excellent imaging. They are just plain fun to listen to!

The new speakers replace my Spendor SP-100 speakers which have gone off to their new home (Enjoy them Tyler!). While I truly enjoyed the Spendors for the entire 15+ years I owned them, I just don't have room for extra sets of big, heavy speakers. I do still have my previous high-efficiency speakers which are 2-ways using an Altec 32 horn and 802-8G driver with the same Jensen P15LL woofer but in a smaller vented cabinet.

The DD18 promises to bring better in-room bass performance to home theater enthusiasts who don't happen to have an acoustician standing by—and to many of those who do. Velodyne DD18 powered subwoofer in sealed cabinet of 1'-thick MDF Driver: 18' Kevlar-reinforced cone with tandem voice coil, 24-lb magnet. Indeed, the Soul Supreme mates a 10.3' full-range driver, complete with whizzer cone, to a tweeter comprising a 113dB-sensitive Radian compression driver, loaded with an aluminum-alloy horn that stands proud of the 37.7'-tall cabinet.

For now the Jensen/Altecs are still in the music room but I plan on moving them out soon as well. The Deja Vu systems utilizing open baffles, compression/horn midrange and a horn tweeter on top are extraordinary systems. The YL horns and the compression drivers are terrific. Their compression drivers are up there with the likes of International Projector Company and some Western Electric drivers in terms of delivering the clear, fast and immediate sound that horn-based midranges are capable of delivering without being excessively colored (honky or nasal) or ragged sounding. As you know, the 802-8G driver and 32 horn is no slouch, but, I think the YL combination is a significant step upward.

I don't know of any commercially available systems that I prefer over the recent Deja Vu systems, regardless of price. Essential to this level of performance is the high efficiency of these systems which allows the use of low-powered amps (I am not too fond of high-powered tube or solid state amps).
