Activating cheats in GTA 3 is pretty simple, as is usual on consoles. There isn't anything special you need to do, just punch in the right button combos during regular gameplay. Don't mind Claude jumping, moving or punching thin air while you do, since the game still registers all inputs. You'll look like a right fool for a few seconds, but who cares when yo can will a tank into existence from the ether?

Cheats can be deactivated usually by simply inputting the code again. Exceptions include weather, which needs to be changed with another cheat, the character skin cheat, which cycles through multiple options before looping back, and finally the NPC Riot and NPC Attack cheats.

These codes must be used with caution, as once activated, their effect remains permanent on the save file leaving you with starting a new game as your only recourse to play without PEDs acting up. NPCs Attack Down, Up, Left, Up, X, R1, R2, L1, L2 PEDs will attack the player. Give All Weapons R2, R2, L1, R2, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up The player has access to all weapons in the game. Give $250,000 R2, R2, L1, L1, Left, Down, Right, Up, Left, Down, Right, Up The player's money is increased by $250,000.

Sunny Weather L1, L2, R1, R2, R2, R1, L2, Triangle Changes the weather to sunny. Decrease Wanted Level R2, R2, L1, R2, Up, Down, Up, Down, Up, Down Removes one wanted star. Increase Wanted Level R2, R2, L1, R2, Left, Right, Left, Right, Left, Right Adds one wanted star. Auto-Explode Cars L2, R2, L1, R1, L2, R2, Triangle, Square, Circle, Triangle, L2, L1 Vehicles in proximity to the player character will automatically explode. Toggle Character Skin Right, Down, Left, Up, L1, L2, Up, Left, Down, Right Cycles through a selection of alternate character models.
