Hello, So I noticed Final Burn Alpha plays a lot of the same ROMs as Mame. But also on FBAnext, you can use newer romsets of the same games. I was thinking; should I download the latest and greatest ROMs of some of the games I already have playing on Mame2003?

I think I'll be testing some things this week between FBA and Mame. While consoles are pretty straight forward as far as performance/expectation, arcade games are a whole different ballgame, as I am on the quest to find optimal performance and compatibility per ROM/core. Generally speaking, MAME is more accurate, but FBA is faster.

However, given that lr-fba-next in retropie is based on current MAME, and mame2003 (for example) is based on 2003 mame, i would guess that lr-fba-next is in most cases the best emulation for any game that both it and mame2003 support. It might even be slightly slower than mame2003, who knows. That said, i found it easier to just use a MAME 0.78 romset and use mame2003 for all of those, and then get the handful of games that ONLY run in FBA (streetfighter III, for example), and run those in fba-next. There's a few games that have problems in 2003 that i've switched over to FBA for, but i don't really feel the need to swap to FBA-next unless i can see 2003 struggling. The FBA part of retroarch pretty much gets updated to the latest release of FBA which is great for updated drivers but also shows stuff that's still beta and doesn't really run at all (MK2-UMK3). It's a damn shame no one at retroarch updates the drivers for mame2003 as there has been a lot of corrections and new games added since 2003 that can easily work on the RPI that can make it the best M.A.M.E. What they did with Coinops for the old Xbox which has added a lot of the fixes and newer games while still using an older M.A.M.E.

Is what someone with the skills should do for the RPI to make reteopie even better.
