Hello I bought a Grundig Satelitt 3400 which worked ok for a while. It then developed a fault on the FM.

Turning the knob for the tuning seems to have very little effect. The frequency counter shows only one or two Mhz difference from end for the FM range. I can hear some radio stations in the background but the frequency remains almost the same throughout the FM range.

I checked the voltage for the varicap and it seems to vary from 2V to 30V as expected. I have the schematic however some of the RF stages are within metal cages and was wondering whether anyone would have some recommendations on where to look at first before starting to dismantle stuff for further troubleshooting? The SM could found the on the net! From your description it looks like that the FM-LO is not running. First I would see if that FM-strip gets its supply voltage, it goes through a switch, and that could be dirty.

The switch is shown on Page 22 of the SM, the line is marked 'D' in a triangle, the switch is marked 'U' (FM band), poles 'o', 'p', 'q'. The supply voltage should be 7.8V to 8.1V If the supply voltage is there then I guess you have to dig into the FM-circuit debugging. Good luck, Peter.
